“Total insecurity”: the referees’ union protests after the Bastia-Lorient incidents

SAFE, the elite referees’ union, denounced on Sunday “unspeakable facts and rare violence” that occurred during the Ligue 2 match the day before between Bastia and Lorient (0-0). The match was interrupted after projectiles were thrown at one of the sidelines.

In a press release, the union points out unacceptable events and the endangerment of the referee: “Lighters, food, drinks, insults… on a referee. A situation of total insecurity which did not prevent us from going to the end of the match. What an example! »

While the score was 0-0 and the Bastiais had the ball, the referee stopped the game and sent the players to the locker room. His linesman told him that he had been the target of projectiles, including “lighters, food and drinks”, according to images and information from broadcaster BeIN Sports.

This incident occurred a few minutes after the direct exclusion of Bastiais Jocelyn Janneh, author of an uncontrolled and dangerous tackle on Lorientais Julien Ponceau (32nd). The meeting, which kicked off at 8:00 p.m., was able to resume at 9:15 p.m. and reach its conclusion.

New incident this Sunday in Ligue 1

Sunday, it was a Ligue 1 match between Nantes and Le Havre (0-2) which was interrupted for almost half an hour. Nantes supporters tried to invade the pitch, furious to see their team trailing 2-0 a few minutes before the end of the match.

Nearly half an hour later, after convening a crisis unit and reassuring the safety of his players, referee Jérôme Brisard played the few minutes remaining in the match.
