The “At judo school” project is underway at the primary school of the RBPD Comprehensive Institute, in which the very young pupils of the intermediate classes participate.
“Judo is not just a simple sport, but a method for physical and moral education, created by the Japanese master Jigoro Kano.
In Japan the term judo means ”way of yielding”.
This sport is played on a tatami (carpet or mat); its aim is to destabilize the opponent using movements, strength and through projection techniques and subsequently immobilization on the ground, as explained by judo master Gianbattista Guglielmi who educates young students towards full corporeity.
The constant and regular practice of judo, guided by philosophical principles and respect for its foundations, promotes autonomy, self-mastery, respect for others and the best quality of life. In fact, UNESCO has declared the sport of judo as the best physical activity for children and young people as it promotes complete corporeity. In judo there are two fundamental principles:
1.The best commitment of energy: The entire harmony, with oneself and with others;
2. all together to grow and progress with minimum effort and maximum results.
The prof. Giovanni Franco, coordinator of the project, underlines the importance of practicing judo: “it is an activity suitable for all ages, it can be started from childhood and helps to become more skilled, more coordinated, stronger but also to be more respectful of the rules, to discover the importance of mutual collaboration, to be aware of one’s body, to recognize one’s weaknesses in order to progress. This project is part of a series of sports projects to expand the training offer that the Headmaster, Prof. Giovanni Cassanelli and his staff promote, since the motor activity practiced during school age contributes to making the child’s psychophysical development harmonious.
