The weakened substitute TSV Freystadt is clearly defeated in Marktheidenfeld

On the ninth matchday of the 2nd Bundesliga South, TSV Freystadt suffered a clear 1:6 defeat against table neighbors TV Marktheidenfeld and slipped from third to fifth place in the table. Moritz Miller got the honorary point for TSV Freystadt.

The duel between Freystadt as champions and Marktheidenfeld as runners-up was very one-sided. That also had to do with the squad that TSV Freystadt came with.

Early for the Junior European Championships

As planned, the Upper Palatinate team did without some top performers. When team manager Stephan Pistorius received the news that Aurelia Wulandoko had to leave with the national team for the European Youth Championships in Ibiza a day earlier than known and that Ella Neve also had to cancel for personal reasons, he decided to use Silke Mader, who was only 15 years old. Son Andreas Pistorius also had to cancel due to illness and so TSV Freystadt traveled without a double specialist.

Things looked completely different with the Lower Franconians. They played with the best line-up, especially with ex-national player and two-time Olympic participant Michael Fuchs. As expected, the two men’s doubles and the mixed doubles went to Marktheidenfeld. In the women’s doubles, Silke Mader achieved many good rallies alongside Katharina Rudert against the Swiss Lina Schadegg and the Austrian Lena Rumpold. But it wasn’t enough, both had to give up the game 9:11, 3:11 and 4:11. In the women’s singles, Freystadt debutant Silke Mader also cut a good figure against the Swiss, even if she was unable to win a set.

The most exciting game was played by Michael Tomic, Austrian national player for TSV Freystadt, and Steffen Grün. After the set was equalized at 2:2, it went into the deciding set, which Grün won 11:7.

In the last game of the encounter, Moritz Miller provided a small sense of success from Freystadt’s perspective. He defeated Moritz Uns in three sets with 11:9, 11:8 and 11:8. Even though the Freystädter would have liked to take a point with them to Freystadt, the team is optimistic that they will quickly get back on the road to success on December 14th and 15th after their second defeat of the season. Then TSV, fifth in the table, welcomes fourth-placed Saarbrücken and sixth-placed Hofheim at home.

TSV reserve celebrates victory

The Bundesliga reserves of TSV Freystadt defeated Post SV Landshut II 6-2 at home at the same time as the Bundesliga game. After being 0-2 behind, Vincent Zeller and Mike Hauber managed to catch up with Freystadt with their victory in the second men’s doubles.

Afterwards, all singles went to TSV with Bennet Elstermann, Christian Jochum, Malte Zeidler and Chiara Brendel. Svenja Dittenhofer and Mike Hauber ensured the final score of 6:2 with their victory in the mixed doubles. With this victory, TSV Freystadt gained breathing room to escape the relegation places and the gap to league leaders TV Augsburg can still be made up.
