“Get going, Salzkammergut!” – this is what large advertising spaces along the Salzkammergutstrasse B 145 encourage, because even if the Capital of Culture year will be history next weekend, a lot should remain – and some things should continue. After all, the Salzkammergut, with the imperial city of Bad Ischl, christened “Banner City” in keeping with the cultural campaign, was the first alpine rural region to make it onto the podium in the forty-year history of European cultural capitals. Nineteen Upper Austrian and four Styrian communities came together to work on four topic areas in around two hundred of their own and one hundred associated projects: “Globallocal – Building the New”, “Culture in Flow”, “Power and Tradition”, “Sharing Salzkammergut – The Art of travel”. 2,800 artists from 73 countries were guests.
