In the final, Sinner won against Tallon Griekspoor 7:6 (2), 6:2 and thus scored the decisive second point for the Italians. In the first singles, his teammate Matteo Berrettini prevailed against Botic van de Zandschulp 6:4, 6:2. The Italian women had already won the Billie Jean King Cup before the men. The Dutch defeated Germany 2-0 in the semi-finals, dashing Germany’s hopes of reaching the final for the first time in 31 years.
The 23-year-old Sinner won the Australian Open and the US Open in 2024 and thus won the first two Grand Slam titles of his career. The world number one also triumphed at the ATP Finals in Turin last week. No professional has achieved this record of success in one season before. The Italian won all three of his singles in Malaga.
