Local sports 2nd Badminton Bundesliga, Mixed BC Offenburg slips to ninth place News from Ortenau

On the last two match days, the Offenburg badminton club achieved the closest possible match results in the 2nd Bundesliga. On Sunday the BCO lost again 3:4 at their table neighbors 1. BV Maintal.

Despite the defeat, the Offenburg team showed a committed performance. However, with the win, the Maintal team overtook the BCO in the table and are now seventh. The Offenburg team slipped to ninth place and, as fourth-from-last, are heavily in the relegation battle.

The match day started promisingly for the hosts, as Lina Berger/Lena Reder in the women’s doubles and Lukas Burger/Andreas Müller in the second men’s doubles confidently secured the first two points. In the first men’s doubles, however, a completely different picture emerged. Nicolas Hoareau from Strasbourg and Dale Auchinleck from Schwanheim in Hesse gave the BCOers no chance. Johannes Discher and Jonas Burger had to admit defeat to the powerful attacking game.

Lena Reder wins singles

Afterwards, Lena Reder was only able to win the women’s singles against the Ukrainian Mariia Rud. However, the combative performances of the other Ortenauers are worth mentioning. Captain Lukas Burger made his comeback in the first men’s singles after an injury break. He even forced the Frenchman Nicolas Hoareau into extra time, but ultimately he lacked the necessary strength and the game went to the Maintal team. Newcomers Elsa Felber and Jonas Burger also fought bravely in the mixed doubles. The Serbian Andrija Doder and Alena Krax, sister of the national player Simon Krax, were a bit too big that day. The balls flew back and forth in a balanced manner for four sets, and in the end the guests were able to win the last set.

Difficult away games

Next up for the BCO are the difficult away games against the two first in the table, TSV Neuhausen-Nymphenburg and TuS Geretsried. All BCO members are aware that staying in the league can only be secured with great fighting spirit. At the next home games on January 11th and 12th, 2025, the team wants to do better again and celebrate a victory.
