Since 1977, the ATP Sportsmanship Award has been presented to players on the tour as voted for by their peers. In 1996, the award was renamed after six-time Grand Slam champion Stefan Edberg, who won it five times between 1988 and 1995. The award recognizes players who demonstrate the highest level of professionalism and integrity while promoting fairness and tennis off the court.
From 2004 onwards, Roger Federer dominated the prize, winning it 13 times from 2004 to 2017, interrupted only by Rafael Nadal in 2010. In Federer’s later years, Nadal won the prize four times in a row, making the duo a total of 18 times between 2004 and 2021 won.
