Richard Gasquet in the final with Villa Primrose (Pro A)

It is from the women’s Pro A that the big surprises have come in recent weeks, during the group stage of the French Team Championships. During the very last day, Sunday, the players of TC Boulogne-Billancourt only had to achieve a draw to ensure their place in the final like last year but they were surprised by the club of La Roche- sur-Yon, Tennis Entente Yonnaise Padel (2-4), who benefited from the reinforcement of French n°4 Clara Burel (72nd WTA), provider of two points, in singles and doubles. The final will pit two teams from Val D’Oise, Eaubonne and Villiers-le-Bel, against each other, who were the only two Pro A teams not to have any players ranked in the French top 20.

Invincible gasket in simple

On the men’s side, the final will pit clubs more accustomed to these altitudes against each other. TC Quimperlé returns to this stage of the competition eleven after its 2013 title. The Bretons are counting on the local Manuel Guinard (259th ATP) and a bunch of foreign players (the Slovak Jozek Kovalik, 127th ATP, the Briton Jan Choinski, 175th, the Austrian Filip Misolic, 283rd, and the Hungarian Zsombor Piros, 244th, notably).

Opposite, there will be Villa Primrose, titled four times in the last twelve years (2012, 16, 18, 20). The Bordelais present a 100% French team, led by an almost omnipresent Richard Gasquet who, after missing the first day, won the four singles he played afterwards, including three in the super tie-break, also adding a point in doubles with Édouard Roger-Vasselin. At 38 years old, the pre-retiree is doing well and still seems to love tennis. The two finals will take place this Saturday at US Colomiers Tennis.
