The 2nd team of 1. BC Straubing had a successful double away game day in Zwiesel last Saturday. The girls and boys achieved a 4:4 draw and a 5:3 win against their opponents from BC Grün-Weiß Obernzell II and TV Zwiesel II.
After the doubles games, they were behind 1:2 against Obernzell, as they only won the second men’s doubles. The singles games were evenly matched and each team won two singles, making it 4:3 for Obernzell before the final mixed doubles. Gerhard Bumes and Melanie Frick from 1. BC Straubing were able to win the mixed doubles in an exciting three-set match (16:21, 21:17, 21:19) and thus equalize 4:4.
In the second game of the double match day against the players from Zwiesel, the second men’s doubles was not played because the host had one man too few. Straubing won the women’s doubles and went into the singles games with a 2-1 lead after the doubles. Here the Gäubodenstädter won and lost two games each and had a 4:3 lead before the mixed game. Prakash Ram Gopalakrishnan and Lucia Hartl successfully played the mixed doubles in two sets (21:12, 21:6) and thus achieved their first win of the season.
With the three points they earned (2 points for the win and 1 point for the draw), the Straubing players have established themselves in the middle of the district class A – South and are confidently looking forward to the next double home game day on December 14th, 2024 in the Jakob Sandtner secondary school.
