NFL: Brian Daboll had to calm things down after comments from receiver Malik Nabers

As if things weren’t already hectic enough for the New York Giants lately, head coach Brian Daboll had to respond Monday to comments made by his star receiver Malik Nabers after Sunday’s loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers .

Nabers finished the game with six catches for 64 yards in a 30-7 loss, but the main note in his case was that he was not targeted once by the quarterback Tommy DeVito in the first half. Asked about it in the locker room after the setback, the receiver threw the ball towards his head coach.

“We go on the field, in the first and second quarter and I don’t have the ball. I was targeted at the end. I mean, we can’t do that, expressed Nabers. To start receiving balls when it’s 30-0? What do you want me to do? »

Asked if he had any idea why he wasn’t on the scoresheet in the first half, he replied simply: “I don’t know, talk to Daboll about that.”

Which was done, because during a telephone press conference Monday with the American media ahead of his team’s game Thursday against the Dallas Cowboys, Daboll returned to this situation.

“He is a very competitive individual. We want to get the ball in his hands, and I’ve got to do a better job of doing that early on. He is an intelligent and competitive young man. When you lose like that, it’s frustrating. We have good communication as always,” the head coach limited himself to saying, stressing that the conversation with his receiver will remain private.

Before this matchup, the Giants decided to remove Daniel Jones from the No. 1 quarterback position and he was eventually released by the team. Tommy DeVito took the spot behind center, but he only had 189 yards. Drew Lock is the other available quarterback.

The game between the Giants and the Cowboys will be presented Thursday at 4:30 p.m. on RDS and on RDS.ca.
