Despite Scottie Barnes’ best game of the season (31 points), the Raptors suffered a 10th loss in 10 games away from Toronto on Monday, 102-100 at the hands of the Pistons in Detroit.
Jaden Ivey completed a 25-point night with the winning basket, to the sound of the siren. After a timeout taken with 22 seconds on the clock, he was patient and skillful before hitting the target from a distance of eight feet.
Ending a three-game losing streak, the Pistons improved to 8-11. Last season, they had to wait until February 8 to enjoy their eighth victory.
Malik Beasley added 14 points, one more than Jalen Duren. Cade Cunningham, the Pistons’ leading scorer, missed the game with a left hip injury.
The Raptors screwed up a night where they dominated 23-6 in offensive rebounds. RJ Barrett provided 17 points and Montreal’s Chris Boucher 10, but no other player had more than nine points.
Gradey Dick missed his first game this season with a left calf injury. He is third among his team with 18.1 points per game, on average.
The Raptors lost a second straight game, on the heels of their first two-game winning streak this season. Darko Rajakovic’s team will play again Wednesday evening in New Orleans. The Pelicans have been beaten in their last five meetings.
