It was the first meeting between the Harbaugh brothers since the 2013 Super Bowl, when John’s Ravens defeated the 49ers Jim’s San Francisco.
Jim Harbaugh returned to the NFL this season after nine seasons in college with Michigan.
“It means a lot. I’m a big brother myself and I can’t lose to my little brother. I think that’s what he (John) must have been thinking about before the match. We came out victorious today,” Jackson said.
The two brothers shared a quick hug and handshake at midfield after the game.
“I just told him, ‘You’re a great head coach and you have a great team. And I love you.” And he said, “I love you and congratulations.” It was good,” said John Harbaugh.
Justice Hill scored a 51-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter for the Ravens (8-4), who have won three of their last four games.
Justin Herbert completed 21 of 36 passes for 218 yards. He added a five-yard rushing touchdown on the Chargers’ opening drive.
Gus Edwards scored the Chargers’ second touchdown 54 minutes later, on a one-yard run, with only 45 seconds left in the game, to make it 30-23. The Ravens’ Isaiah Likely, however, got his hands on the ball on the Chargers’ short kick.
Cameron Dicker made all three of his field goal attempts for the Chargers (7-4), who saw their winning streak stopped at four.
“I thought we did a good job of limiting turnovers and keeping the ball. We just need to score more points,” Herbert analyzed.
The Chargers had to turn to the passing game starting in the second quarter, as they lost running back JK Dobbins to a knee injury.
For the Ravens, Henry did not score a touchdown for the first time this campaign, but he still had a good evening with 24 carries.
“They ran the ball really well. We need to do a better job of countering blocks in all facets of the game, but we have to give them credit. They did a hell of a job,” admitted Jim Harbaugh.
The Ravens trailed 10-0, but scored on five straight possessions to take control of the game.
Jackson, who leads the NFL in passing yards, completed 16 of 22 passes for 177 yards. He also rushed for 17 yards, including 10 on his touchdown run to give the Ravens a 10-7 lead.
