TYUS: «VARESE CLUB WITH A GREAT TRADITION». SYKES: «SOON TO TALK ABOUT GOALS»

The press conference introducing Alex Tyus and Keifer Sykes was held this afternoon.

Here are their first words:

Alex Tyus

«I chose Varese because I know the tradition of this club. I have already spent a sporting year in Italy, in Cantù, and I remember very well the atmosphere and the warmth of the crowd in the home matches in Masnago; before signing I was able to speak with the technical staff and with Luis Scola, who I already knew from having played against him, and it was therefore easy to accept the red and white offer. I hope to be able to bring experience and quality to the pitch to help the team. I have never played in a system like the Varese one, but I will do everything that has been asked of me, which is to make my energy available both in rebounding and in the defensive phase. In my entire career I have never found myself in a situation where I had to fight not to be relegated, but I have a lot of motivation to do well and I will do everything I can to bring a winning mentality and professionalism to training every day.”

Keifer Sykes

«The reasons that pushed me to sign a contract with Varese? First of all I love Italy, which is the country where I felt best both on and off the pitch in my 10 years of professionalism; I also know Luis Scola well, who was a teammate of mine during my time at Olimpia. Finally, the weight that Varese has in the Italian and European basketball scene also had an impact. We know we have a lot of work to do; we have to win a lot of points and improve our play on the pitch, but I hope to help with my experience and professionalism. I spent the last two years in America to be closer to my family; I was used to traveling often but especially after COVID I felt the need to share more time with them. It is too early to say what our concrete objectives could be, beyond the main one which is salvation. We have to find the right team chemistry and work, trying to be better than we have been so far on both sides of the pitch. Then we’ll see.”
