Mexico, Nov 26 (EFE).- The Spanish Francisco ‘Paco’ Olmos, coach of the Halcones de Xalapa, celebrated this Tuesday that what he considers the two best teams of the Mexican basketball league season reached the final series , which will start this Thursday in Mexico City, home of the Red Devils.
“We are the two teams that have played the best FIBA basketball, of building and not destroying. With eight foreigners on the roster, this year there has been more physical-athletic basketball, which led us to play a more collective game,” said the strategist who, along with fellow Spaniard Iván Déniz, claims to be the most successful in the championship with three trophies each. one in their display cases.
Starting this Thursday, the Halcones and the Devils will begin the final series, in which the first of the two to win four times will be the new Mexican champion.
The Halcones, with four titles, are fighting to tie Fuerza Regia, from Monterrey, as the quintet with the most titles in their record, since the regios obtained their fifth trophy last year.
“The most difficult thing is coming to us. I respect Diablos for their roster and their coach (Argentine Nicolás Casalánguida), for their way of playing. Returning to a final fills me with joy and pride, there will be a great show,” added Olmos, who last September led Xalapa to win the cup, in which they beat the Diablos in the final.
Casalánguida, manager of the Reds, dreams of making history by giving the championship to his team, which this year debuted in the basketball league and is part of a club that is the most successful in Mexican baseball.
“We have done seven months of teamwork, strategic planning, both in the office and on the field. It is a silent job, but it requires a lot of effort and analysis because building a franchise from scratch is not easy, especially since we did not have player cards, a limitation, it was hard work in terms of scouting possible players,” he said. the native of Comodoro Rivadavia.
The former assistant of the Argentine team agreed with Olmos that the two best teams of the campaign arrive at the final in Mexico.
“It is a final with the two best teams of the year and that speaks of the good planning and work of the players and the work staff, we coaches have only played the role of leadership,” stated Casalánguida.
The final will begin this Thursday and could be extended, if it reaches a seventh and final game, until December 9.
