In a stellar game, the British Robertson defeated the Argentine Garay
Mérida, November 26, 2024.- With an intense and long-suffering game, the British Charlie Robertson managed to win with a score of 7-6 (4) and 6-4, over the Argentine Valentín Garay, in the World Cup of Yucatan Tennis 2024.
The international tournament takes place on the fields of the Campestre club, in the main match of the day, played after the colorful and spectacular opening ceremony, on the stadium field.
The opening ceremony with the parade of participants, honors to the Flag, the national anthem, words from directors and officials, to the dance Around the World, with stilt walkers and acrobatics at heights, fireworks and the kick-off by Luis Enrique “Araña” Herrera, with Agustín “Bebé” Moreno receiving, two renowned national tennis figures of yesteryear.
In the presidium were Jorge Haro Giffenig, director of the Cup; Arturo Millet Molina, president of the Country Club; Mauricio Millet Reyes, head of the Yucatán Tennis Association; Armín Lizama Córdova, director of IDEY; as well as Carlos Díaz, supervisor of the ITF.
There were messages from the president of Campestre, the municipal official and Haro Giffenig. The director of IDEY made the opening statement.
Haro Giffenig said that 180 players from 45 countries participate in this edition, and highlighted that tennis players of the caliber of Gustavo Kuerten, Marcelo Ríos, Andy Roddick, Marin Cilic, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Andrey Rublev, Taylor Fritz, Marion Bartoli, Caroline Wozniacki, Madison Keys, Simona Halep, Coco Gauf, among others.
