This accessible and fun game is establishing itself as a promising activity in the world of racket sports. The Vicois Tennis Club wants to develop its practice in the Gers.

The Vicois Tennis Club wishes to develop within the club a new activity recently integrated by the French Tennis Federation. This sport is called pickleball or light tennis. It is a racket sport, played indoors or outdoors, in which two players (singles) or four players (doubles) hit a hollow, perforated plastic ball over a net. 36 inches (0.91 m) tall, using a full-face racket. Opponents on either side of the net pass the ball back and forth until one of them commits a foul.

Invented in 1965, this sport is booming

Pickleball was invented in 1965 in the United States, on Bainbridge Island, Washington, as a children’s backyard game. After the national success of padel in many clubs, pickleball could in turn experience growth of the same magnitude. The pickelball court and the way it is played resembles tennis and, in some ways, table tennis. The size of the playing surface corresponds to that of a badminton court. This sport can be played in singles or doubles, and can be available in several versions (competition, leisure, health sport).

Open sessions

The Vic-Fezensac club has recently been organizing sessions, open to all, on Mondays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. “Come and try, to see for yourself, the fun side, but also the physical side, depending on the desired mode of play. See you very soon on the courts of the Vicois Tennis Club,” say co-presidents Sandrine Postigo and Sophie Cauquil.
