At the close of this edition, Risaralda remains in eighth place in the first version of the National Youth Games, thus obtaining her ninth gold medal and number 30 overall. Precisely this new gold medal came in the judo competition in the men’s 100 kilogram final, where Miguel Ángel Vélez Agudelo was crowned champion.
At 20 years old, the bronze medalist in the National Games of the senior category last year in the Coffee Region, had a dream revenge and on this occasion in the Youth Nationals, he finished in first place, giving the gold medal to the Risraldense delegation. This is how Miguel Ángel added a total of 20 points, surpassing Luis Alejandro Ceballos del Valle who finished with 10. In third place and with a bronze medal, was Luis David Mendoza with zero points.
In this way, there are now six disciplines in which the Risraldenses have occupied first place in these competitions: with two are archery, athletics and boxing. For its part, with one: bowling, judo and sports shooting. The nine gold medalists are: Juliana Gallego on two occasions; Yesenia Sánchez in individual and in the women’s 4×100 relay; Samuel Mauricio Calderón, Jannin Samanta Gómez, Juan Esteban Osorio, Mariana Morales and Miguel Ángel Vélez.
Risaralda accumulates 30 medals in these Youth Nationals: nine gold, five silver and 16 bronze, thus occupying, two days from finishing competitions, eighth place, below Cundinamarca which is seventh with 16 gold, 17 silver and 43 bronze, so it is now impossible for the Risraldenses to reach that position and they will have to fight to maintain the eighth square, where their two closest escorts are Casanare and Caldas.
The closing of this first edition of the Youth Nationals and Paranationals will be tomorrow in Manizales.
