1. Introduction to competition levels
In January 2024, the “China Pickleball Tour Points Management Measures” was released on the official website of the China Tennis Association, awarding participants national pickleball rankings and points according to the level of the event.
In March 2024, the Chinese Tennis Association launched the “China Pickleball Circuit”, the China Pickleball Circuit, referred to as the CPC Tour, for pickleball enthusiasts across the country.
The China Pickleball Tour is a national pickleball event. The event levels of the 2024 China Pickleball Tour individual events are CPC-1000 (1000 points), CPC-600 (600 points), CPC-300 (300 points), CPC-200 (200 points), CPC-100 (100 points) points), CPC-50 (50 points).
CPC-1000 and CPC-600 are high-level national pickleball events hosted by the Tennis Management Center of the State Sports General Administration, the Chinese Tennis Association and the Student Sports Association of the Ministry of Education.
CPC-300 and CPC-200 are the highest-level events in the region sponsored by the provincial sports department’s tennis or pickleball project management unit, the education system’s tennis or pickleball competition management department, educational institutions, and social institutions.
CPC-100 and CPC-50 are pickleball events with certain influence organized by municipal sports authorities, educational institutions, social institutions, etc.
The event levels of the team competition are CPC-T1000 (1000 team points), CPC-T500 (500 team points), CPC-T250 (250 team points), and CPC-T125 (125 team points).
Event registration and points rankings have been launched on the WeChat mini program “Tennis Events”. Whether it is a newcomer participating for the first time or a professional player with rich competition experience, he can easily and quickly find and participate in points events that match his skill level.
2. Scale and influence of the event
This year’s CPC Tour will carry out more than 80 competitions across the country, covering more than 20 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the Central Government. The competition is currently in full swing, with more than 15,000 participants, including contestants from many provinces and cities across the country, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, overseas Chinese compatriots and international friends. The live broadcast of the event has been viewed by more than 1 million people on new media platforms such as Douyin and Xiaohongshu, and a single live broadcast can reach 120,000 views.
The game points inclusion model lowers the threshold for small and medium-sized clubs to carry out pickleball events, provides start-up companies with opportunities to access national events, and further promotes the development of domestic pickleball projects.
3. Competition support
The tennis training system provides rich training experience for the development of pickleball training. Starting from December 2023, pickleball referee training courses will be held in Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin, Hengqin, Ulanqab, Dalian, Zhuhai, Shijiazhuang and other places More than ten stations of free training have been carried out, and a total of more than 400 referees have been trained.
The training uses the “Chinese Pickleball Competition Rules” approved and published by the Chinese Tennis Association. Participants include international tennis referees, college teachers, members of local pickleball associations, pickleball enthusiasts, etc. Students who pass the training are qualified to referee in the China Pickleball Tour.
The Chinese Tennis Association has also organized social instructor training in conjunction with China Enterprise Sports Association, Beijing University Student Sports Association, Jilin Provincial Student Sports Association, Hong Kong Jockey Club and other associations to provide a foundation for the promotion of national fitness in pickleball.
