The 29-year-old quarterback filed a lawsuit in a court in Texas on November 22nd, several US media outlets unanimously reported. Specifically, it is about the fact that the company Camwood Capital Management Group – Mayfield’s father James is the founder, Baker’s brother Matt is the managing director – is said to have stolen “significant amounts of money” from TBRM, a company owned by Baker Mayfield and his wife, from 2018 to 2021.
Camwood Capital is said to have diverted almost twelve million dollars over several years to, among other things, pay salaries. That was discovered in 2023, according to Mayfield. At the time, he filed a petition to investigate Camwood Capital’s conduct. “These efforts revealed that defendants stole funds from plaintiffs without a plan or ability to repay them,” the lawsuit says.
In January 2024, both parties confidentially agreed that Camwood Capital would repay a sum of $11.741 million plus interest in installments starting at the end of September. For this purpose, the Mayfields were given access to Camwood Capital’s accounting, among other things.
However, this is said to have never happened. “To date, Camwood Capital has not repaid a single dollar of the settlement agreement,” it says, and there is also no access to the files. In the new lawsuit, Baker Mayfield is now demanding repayment of the entire amount, including interest.
