During Monday’s day, the death of former Tinguiririca San Fernando player Rodrigo Madera Cirio (RIP) was announced after having been dealing with an aggressive cancer since 2022. His death has generated deep consternation within the national basket making circle.
Madera was born in 1990 in the Dominican Republic and since 2014 he settled in Chile where he actively participated in several clubs on the national circuit and was also part of the national team on several occasions.
In 2017, he arrived at TSF where he was on the team during the 2017-2018 campaign in the National League with the energy team, which demonstrated not only his potential but also his dedication and commitment to the team. After leaving TSF, Madera ended up at the University of Concepción where he obtained great achievements such as the national title in 2021, in addition to winning the Super Cup that year with the “Campanil”, in addition he also wore the jerseys of Español de Talca, Atlético Puerto Varas and Deportes Castro and during that period he obtained Chilean nationality which allowed him to play for the national team.
In 2022 he was forced to leave the activity due to cancer that deteriorated his health until Monday where he died in the city of Castro at the age of 34.
The entire national basketball community showed its deep sadness at the departure of one of its colleagues, in fact in the game on Monday night in Valdivia between Chile and Venezuela for the Americup 2025 qualifiers, an emotional tribute was paid to him in his memory, the team also gave him an impeccable 86-61 victory in his honor.
