The honorary chairman of the Georgian Dream party, Bidzina Ivanishvili, announced that Russian football champion Mikheil Kavelashvili has become a candidate for the presidency of Georgia. The 53-year-old ex-football player occupies the seat of a member of the Georgian Parliament.
There is no doubt that Kavelashvili will serve not a foreign power, but the Georgian state and the Georgian people, and will contribute to the progress and success of our country. “I would like to wish Mikhail a successful career as President of Georgia,” the Rustavi 2 TV channel website quotes Ivanishvili as saying.

Kavelashvili received the title of Russian champion in 1995 as part of the Spartak-Alania team from Vladikavkaz. Also, together with Grasshopper, he won the Swiss championship and became a multiple champion of Georgia, playing for Dynamo Tbilisi. He played 46 matches for the national team and scored nine goals.
