With 200 additional licensees in the space of two years, the badminton section of Smuc has changed in size and now has 450 licensees. “It’s an immense source of pride, the result of a project launched four years agoasks President Benjamin Snacel. And again, we refused around a hundred people because we lacked space.”
For the first time in its history, the club presents two teams (mixed) in the French championship with the One in National 2 and the reserve in N3. “We have a versatile and experienced group”describes the president. A conclusive recipe since the pennant team is currently leader of its group. “We hope to play in the play-offs. We are aiming for promotion within 2-3 years but, if it presents itself this year, we will not refuse it.”
Behind it, there is a whole club that is in the process of being structured. “The objective is to professionalize the section, develop the practice among young people by working with schools to train them and then integrate them into senior teamsexplains Benjamin Snacel. Among women, this is already the case. For the boys, we still have to wait a little bit with good hopes for the younger ones… For the cohesion of our project, we are increasing the number of friendly events so that everyone feels concerned and involved.”
While their club is in full development, the leaders of Smuc badminton set no limits. “We would like to push the walls because we lack opportunities and resources. And if we do not find partners, the project could quickly find itself in danger”warns the president who, in the long term, would like to be able to offer a very good showcase to young Marseille bad players.
