Stick shooter Koller on the way to the European Championships

PINK FIELD. Stick shooter Maximilian Koller from ESV Pinkafeld-Sinnersdorf achieved third place in the distance competition in the U19 class on the last of five competition days of the Austria Cup and thus also secured third place overall. This means that the young stick shooter has almost secured his ticket to the European Championships in Stanz-Kapfenberg at the end of February.

Poiger re-elected

BUDAPEST. At the congress of the European Judo Union (EJU) in Budapest Judo Austria President Martin Poiger unanimously re-elected as Secretary General by acclamation. The term of office runs until December 2028.

“It is a privilege to be able to pursue my hobby professionally at the highest level. Twelve years ago, my EJU career began, at that time in the role of office director, at the congress in Budapest,” said the 47-year-old native of Oberwart, who lives in Stockerau. ÖJV President Martin Poiger has been working full-time for the EJU since December 2012, at that time in the role of office manager in Vienna. Since March 2022 he has been acting as general secretary.

Football spotting training in Stegersbach

STEGERSBACH. There was a huge crowd at the screening training of the BFV women’s academy in Stegersbach. 35 young footballers showed their talent. The majority of the future academy players will play for FC Südburgenland.

Fiona Fazekas and Anja Bacher from FC Südburgenland are on call for the U19 European Championship qualifiers at the end of November. Alina Kerschbaumer and the U17 team made it into the second European Championship qualifying round as second in the group.

Gunners player Köppel undergoes surgery

OBERWART. After weeks of knee problems, basketball player Daniel Köppel underwent an operation, specifically a lateral patellar facetectomy on his left knee. Köppel was already able to leave the clinic again. Intensive rehabilitation therapy follows. If everything goes according to plan, the Oberwart Gunners player can be back on the field for the Bundesliga club in around six weeks.
