First victory for the teenager from India: Challenger Gukesh beat defending champion Ding for the first time at the World Chess Championship and equalized on points.
Dommaraju Gukesh equalized in the final of the World Chess Championship in Singapore. The 18-year-old Indian won the third game after 37 moves against the reigning world champion Ding Liren from China. The score is now 1.5 to 1.5.
The defending champion came under pressure early on and thought too long about his moves – which was also because he obviously didn’t know the variant of the game. To compensate for this disadvantage, he needed a lot of time for his calculations – too much. The clock ran out mercilessly and Ding exceeded the two hours for the 40 moves. The game went to the young Indian.
World Chess Championship: There are eleven games left to play
The win gives Gukesh a point; The first match went to Liren, in the second the opponents ended in a draw. After a day’s break, the fourth game continues on Friday.
14 games will be played in the final. The winner of a game receives one point; in the event of a draw, half a point is awarded. The first player to collect 7.5 points is the world chess champion and receives the majority of the prize money of $2.5 million. If there is a draw after 14 games, a tiebreak in rapid chess follows.
