This Wednesday the 2024 National Sports Award was presented, where the judoka Prisca Awiti Alcaraz was one of the winners for her silver medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The ceremony was held at the National Palace and was headed by the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, as well as the director of the National Commission of Physical Culture and Sports (CONADE), Rommel Pacheco Marrufo.
The National Sports Award was awarded in seven categories, which were:
- Award for amateur sport: Prisca Awiti, Judo; Osmar Olvera Ibarra and Juan Manuel Celaya, nailed; and Marco Verde, box.
- Prize for Paralympic sport: Juan Pablo Cervantes, adapted athletics, and Gloria Zarza, shot put.
- Award for professional sports: Charlyn Corral from Liga MX.
- Lifetime Achievement Award: Daniel Aceves and Alejandra Orozco.
- Award for sports judge: Katia Itzel García Mendoza from Liga MX.
- Coaches award: Radamés Hernández Cázares, Iván Rodríguez and Martín Velasco Soria.
- Award for promotion of sports: Harp Helú Foundation for Sports.
Osmar Olvera Ibarra, double diving medalist, was the one who spoke on behalf of the athletes and after thanking them for the support received, he named Sheinbaum Pardo as the captain of the Mexican delegation on its way to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
At the time, the president of Mexico said that support for athletes will continue, in addition to promote social and community sports, since “we want that through activity we can bring peace to different parts of the country.”
Likewise, he highlighted that Rommel Pacheco is in charge of CONADE as well as seeing how the athletes express themselves about him.
For his part, the head of CONADE reiterated his commitment to helping athletes ahead of Los Angeles 2028, where he trusted that the number of medals won by the Mexican delegation could be increased, in addition to putting order in support of the athletes.
“We come to establish order so that our athletes are never again affected by conflicts, personal interests or privileges that belong to the distant past of a system that has already expired.”
