Crawford’s career was practically straight out of Hollywood. Originally from Mountain View, California, he grew up a Giants fan in the Bay Area. By now, every MLB fan has seen the photo of him staring sadly into the camera at Candlestick Park in 1992, when the team’s fate in San Francisco was up in the air.
The Giants selected Crawford in the fourth round of the 2008 draft. and debuted in 2011. The following year, he appeared in 143 games as the Giants won the World Series for the seventh time. In 2014, they won another title.
Over time, The 37-year-old wrote his name in the franchise record books. He ranks seventh all-time in games played (1,654) and was responsible for the fourth-highest defensive WAR (14.3), according to Baseball Reference.
Giants plan to honor Crawford on April 26when the club is scheduled to face Bruce Bochy’s Rangers at Oracle Park. “Watching Brandon play was an absolute privilege not only for me, but for Giants fans everywhere,” Giants president and CEO Larry Baer said in a statement..
