The athlete born in Tulum Thaily Sofia Molina became the first Quintana Roo native in history to win a gold medal in the Pan American Under-13 and Under-15 Judo Championships, this by becoming absolute champion in the Under-13 category of the division of minus 47 kilos, during the actions that take place in the city of Varadero, Cuba, from November 28 to 30.

In a joint support between the Quintana Roo Sports Commission (Codeq), headed by Jacobo Arzate Hop, with the parents and municipal authorities, the current Pan American champion, along with three other judokas from Quintana Roo, made the trip to take part in this international competition.

The young woman from Quintana Roo, who also represented Mexico, showed her best technique to beat Laila Paredes, from Ecuador, in what was the grand final of the U-13 category and thus become the first athlete in the history of Quintana sport. On her way to the scepter, the Tulum native surpassed rivals such as Arislemi Molina, from Cuba; Hevellen Silva, from Brazil and Aitana Molina, from Cuba; also highlighting that, to participate in this type of competition, athletes must be ranked in the first national places; In the case of Thaily Molina, he is number one in his division.

It should be noted that Thaily trains under the direction of Professor Marta Domínguez Ramos in Tulum, this under a coordinated effort with the technical director of judo in Quintana Roo, Professor Dayma Beltrán.

The competition also saw the participation of three other athletes from Quintana Roo, who showed their quality by achieving great international experience, such as Maximiliano Vázquez, who finished in fifth place in his division; in addition to Dylan Itzá, who reached the repechage phase and César Santamaría.
