Tulum pride. The young athlete, Thaily Sofia Molinahas set a historical precedent for Quintana Roo by winning the gold medal in the Pan American U-13 and U-15 Judo Championships 2024held in Varadero, Cuba.
Additionally, in the Under-13 category and the minus 47 kilos division, Thaily became absolute champion, becoming the first Quintana Roo native to achieve this feat.

Tulum Pride: A joint effort for success
In a statement it was reported that Thaily’s achievement was possible thanks to the support of the Quintana Roo Sports Commission (CODEQ)led by Jacobo Arzate Hop, in collaboration with municipal authorities and the support of his family.
This teamwork allowed the champion, along with three other judokas from Quintana Roo, to travel to this important international competition.
This result reflects the commitment of the state government to sports development, aligned with the New Agreement for Wellbeing and Developmentpromoted by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa.
“We will continue to support Thaily and all the athletes of Quintana Roo. “We believe in sport as a tool to transform lives,” said the governor.

Historic triumph and impeccable technique
On her way to gold, Thaily defeated notable rivals such as:
- Arislemi Molina (Cuba).
- Hevell Silva (Brazil).
- Aitana Molina (Cuba).
In the grand final, the young woman from Tulum showed her talent by beating Laila Paredesfrom Ecuador, consolidating itself as the best in its category.
Talent and preparation
Thaily Sofía, who represents Mexico in international competitions, trains under the direction of the teacher Marta Domínguez Ramos in Tulum, with the technical support of Dayma Beltranjudo director in Quintana Roo.
Likewise, her dedication and position as number one in the national ranking of her division place her as a reference in state and national sports.
