Chen Chenwei — Wikipedia

Chen Chen-wei (Chen Chenwei) born December 12, 1997, is a native of the Amis tribe^[1] and Taiwanese baseball player who currently plays for the Taoyuan Rakuten Monkeys professional team of the Chinese Professional Baseball League and in the national team. His defensive positions are shortstop and center fielder. His cousin is catcher Chen Chia-ju (陳家駒) who currently plays for CTBC Brothers.

Chen Chen-wei has been a shortstop since his Little League days. Known for his speed and hitting, he also played in the Williamsport Little League World Series. At that time, he was relatively small at only 1.45 meters and only reached his current height of 1.80 meters rather late. In middle school, he played at a college known for its baseball team, Meiho Middle School, and met Chen Je-cheng (陳瑞振), the head coach of the middle school team who was also a shortstop and decided to take him under his wing by giving him private lessons. In 2018, he participated in the mid-season draft and was selected by the Lamigo Monkeys who became the Rakuten Monkeys the following year. A two-step selection, since he was taken in the second round (the eighth overall pick in the draft) and consensus on the signing was reached in mid-August ^[2] .
