Miroslav Klose explains why, unlike other players of his generation, he really wanted to become a coach. The world champion talks about his tough journey, his principles as a coach – and Harry Kane’s penalties.
Miroslav Klose’s story as a footballer has been told many times, but it doesn’t get any less fascinating: from the West Palatinate district league to world champion and World Cup record goalscorer, from SG Blaubach-Diedelkopf via Homburg II, Homburg, Kaiserslautern II and Kaiserslautern into the big football world. And now the coach Klose, 46, is trying it step by step, like the footballer Klose. Started as a youth coach at FC Bayern, then assistant coach to Hansi Flick, head coach at SCR Altach in Austria and currently at 1. FC Nürnberg in the second division. Klose, still a passionate hobby fisherman, of course shows up on time for the interview at the Nuremberg training center, which is famously named after the local body of water.
