The Dominican Republic defeats Venezuela 6-3 in the final of the tournament.
THE WAR MAMON. – The Dominican Republic was crowned champion of the third edition of the Pimentel International Baseball Classic 2024 Seaboard Cup, defeating Venezuela 6-3 in an exciting final held at the CYCNS stadium of the Pimentel Baseball Academy complex, in the El Mamón de Guerra community.
The Dominican team sealed its victory in the top of the eighth inning, when it scored four runs, expanding the lead and securing the victory. The Venezuelans, who fought throughout the match, were unable to turn the score around despite their efforts.
Throughout the tournament, which included the participation of teams from Guatemala, USA Texas, Mexico, Curacao, Colombia and USA Florida, the Dominican team stood out for its offense. Players Willy Pérez, Erick Mendoza and Starlin Inoa shone with a pair of hits each, while Adrián Martínez stood out with three hits, contributing significantly to the attack.
Pitcher Henyel Turbí was key in the victory, being named the most valuable player of the game. Turbí pitched seven hitless innings, allowing just one run, four walks and striking out three batters. His extraordinary performance was essential for the Dominican Republic to reach the championship.
In the semifinals, both Venezuela and the Dominican Republic arrived after beating USA Texas and Guatemala, respectively. During the awards ceremony, Cristian Pimentel, director of the organizing entity (Worgbev) World Organization of Baseball Events, congratulated the Dominican champions and the Venezuelan runners-up, as well as the teams from the other participating countries.
The most valuable player of the tournament was Nathanaiel Chittum, shortstop for the USA Texas team, who led the main offensive statistics. For his part, Jorge Estrada, pitcher from Guatemala, was recognized as the pitcher’s MVP, thanks to his outstanding work that led his team to the semifinals.
This event, which had a great international impact, was supported by Seaboard Clean Energy, Gatorade, Logomarca, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation (Miderec), the Metropolitan Bus Services Office (OMSA) and the Dominican Baseball Federation ( Fedobe). The 2024 edition of the Pimentel International Baseball Classic left a clear message: the passion for baseball continues to be one of the region’s greatest assets.
