Jaka and Imaz closed the first day of Couples this Sunday with a hard-fought victory at the Basauri fronton. Their good start to the game allowed them to save the furniture against Peña II and Albisu. They managed well the eight-goal advantage they gained in the first half of the contest against very unstable rivals. Those who wore blue toughened the game and managed to give some excitement to the clash, but their mistakes took their toll.
On a field where none of the four protagonists had played before, the Colorados came out much more focused and Lizartza’s forward was in charge of making the difference. Jaka took advantage of almost all the options he had to enter the auction and in the blink of an eye – 84 shots – he made it 8-0 in the light without Peña II and Albisu, very uncomfortable, finding the formula to stop the bleeding. With Imaz well planted at the back and without making mistakes, the winners had the match where they wanted. By the halfway point, the Tolosa striker had only scored one goal.

However, the first mandatory break did not sit well with them. Seeing their superiority, they seemed to relax, while it allowed their rivals to catch the breath they were missing. It was the mistakes of the Colorados that gave them the opportunity to enter the clash. Albisu began to rule in his field and the match became tougher because Imaz sold his goals dearly although he ended up giving in on some of them. But it took Peña II a world to finish the plays. The defeated team cut the difference due to insistence and reached two points (14-12). They could even get closer if the man from Tolosa did not miss a hook after another very long rally that they had under control. And a pass at the worst moment made Jaka and Imaz keep calm because, shortly after, they saw each other again with four goals difference, which was how they reached the second break.
At the end of the game there was no reaction from the blues. Quite the opposite. They were up to their necks in water and drowned. They continued on a roller coaster of play and sensations and thus it is very difficult to earn merits to win. The Colorados were not very successful either, but it was worth it with a somewhat more solid version to secure the victory. In the Serie B tournament duel, Darío and Gabirondo defeated Zabala and Eskuza (22-17).
