Angri Unstoppable basketball: Catanzaro surrenders 89-74

Angri Pallacanestro’s second round starts off on the right foot, beating Basket Academy Catanzaro 89-74 at the PalaGalvani.

A more sweaty victory than the score suggests, which consolidates third place in the standings for the grey-reds and gives emotions to the home crowd. The absolute protagonist of the evening was Martinez, author of 32 points, flanked by 19 by Valle and 18 by Milojevic, who was out for fouls in the third quarter.

The match

The start saw Angri immediately aggressive, with Milojevic and Valle responding to Babilodze for the 4-2. Malkic’s triple from the corner brings the score to 7-2, and Martinez, with the complicity of Borciu on the rebound, consolidates the advantage (11-4). Valle hits from long range and a solo dunk by Martinez gives the +10 (20-10), forcing Catanzaro to time out. The Anglo defense neutralizes the Calabrian attacks and the first quarter ends at 26-13.

In the second period, Angri’s attack slows down. Catanzaro, with Tamulevicius in evidence, reduces the gap (26-17). Martinez breaks the offensive fast with a triple of +12 (29-17). Despite the foul problems of several players, Angri maintained control with points from Mastrototaro and Bonanni, going into halftime at 47-31.

The recovery

In the third quarter, Malkic and Milojevic quickly commit the fourth penalty, but the latter, together with Valle and Martinez, pushes the Condors to their maximum advantage (+23 at 61-38). However, Milojevic goes out for fouls, and Catanzaro closes to -10 with Tamulevicius and Battaglia. Martinez responds with a triple that brings Angri back ahead 64-51, while Valle closes the quarter with another bomb for 69-53.

The last period opens with torpedoes from Martinez and Valle which bring the score to 75-53. Catanzaro tries to react with Tamulevicius, but Martinez and Malkic from free throws re-establish the distance (80-62).
