On Saturday, November 23rd, 2024, the HSG DHfK Leipzig first team played against SV GutsMuths Jena in Ilmenau. In front of a record crowd of 506 spectators, the Leipzig players experienced an evening full of emotions, but it didn’t go well in terms of sport.
Both the first men’s and women’s doubles did not find their way into the game and lost to the hosts in three sets. The second men’s doubles, which was contested by Ludwig Bram and Sven Hendrich, brought Leipzig the only set win in the doubles, but also ended in Jena’s favor.
In the men’s singles, Wilhelm Büchner narrowly missed winning the set against Lennart Notni and was then unable to continue his performance. Paula-Elisabeth Nitschke fought her way into the fifth set in the women’s singles, but lost to Marie Lücke in a thrilling duel. The mixed doubles, played by Merle Krachudel and Ludwig Bram, ultimately brought the only point for Leipzig, while Michel Koucky also lost in the second men’s singles after a good start.
Despite the 1:6 defeat, the evening remains unforgettable: thanks to the record atmosphere, a very good organization by SV 1880 Unterpörlitz and the TV broadcast by MDR, it was a highlight for the sport of badminton.
