Jakarta (ANTARA) – Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo echoed the government’s commitment to developing and upgrading training centers for priority sports to train athletes expected to compete in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
“Per President Prabowo Subianto’s instruction, we should enhance our training centers for priority sports (in the Olympics),” Ariotedjo noted as per the ministry’s written statement received on Monday.
As Indonesia designated badminton as a priority sport that is expected to contribute to increasing Indonesia’s gold medal tally in the Olympics, the government will upgrade the badminton training center in Cipayung, East Jakarta.
The minister spoke of having consulted Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, for the training center upgrade.
“We have discussed the development of training center facilities in Cipayung oriented to both junior and senior athletes,” Ariotedjo noted.

While the junior-level training center is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, the senior-level center will follow, he added.
The minister expects that upgrading the training facilities would bolster the training for badminton athletes to compete and win at global-level multi-sport events, such as the Olympics.
“The people’s expectation of badminton is high. We do expect our badminton athletes to win gold medals in the 2028 Olympics,” he remarked.
