Mexico will not host Major League Baseball in 2025 – Hora Cero Web

Mexico City.-
Neither Mexico nor Puerto Rico will be the home of the Major Leagues. At least not in the next regular season of 2025. A situation that does not “worry” Horacio de la Vega, who is president of the Mexican Baseball League, as he prefers to take it “calm.”

“Frankly, they are also expensive events. […] “You have to pay ‘like’ important taxes for those teams that stop hosting at home,” said the president of the Federation at the GNP Arena in Acapulco, during the last Padel Major of the season.

And, a few days ago, the commissioner of the Major Leagues —Rob Manfred— announced that the MLB has its sights set on the country of the rising sun: Japan, for “very commercial reasons.” Hence, the “Mexico City Series” will have to wait, but with the promise that the Major Leagues “will return.” That they will light up the Alfredo Harp Helú Stadium again, just as they did with the duel between the Houston Astros and the Colorado Rockies.

“Major League Baseball is a monster. It is a robust, large instance, also difficult to negotiate many other things. We have changed the dynamic a little, you’ll see,” explained Horacio de la Vega.

It should be remembered that, for 2026, Major League Baseball has planned a stop in the country’s capital, planned for May. And in the case of San Juan, Puerto Rico, in September.

“There is an intention by the Major Leagues—along with us—to be able to promote that type of dynamic in stadiums of the Mexican Baseball League, in stadiums of the Major Leagues with teams from the Mexican Baseball League. And that is what they are going to begin to see in the coming years,” stated the president.

In addition, Horacio de la Vega will seek to give attention to Spring Training—moments prior to the Mexican League season—to continue with a rapprochement between the fans and the king of sports.

When will the next Major League Baseball season start?

The Tokyo Series will see action until next Tuesday, March 18, when the Los Angeles Dodgers face the Chicago Cubs.
This will be the sixth time that the Major Leagues open their regular season in the capital of Japan.
