CULEMBORG • Focus’07 played one of the worst games of the season at home against OSM’75 on Saturday. The score was 0-2 for the guests.
The team from Maarssenbroek achieved a businesslike victory over the Culemborgers at a busy Parisian sports park in a sporty, but disappointing match for the home team.
The first twenty minutes were balanced, with both teams feeling each other out. OSM’75, however, had the better chances. In the 11th minute, the speedy Dion Linger shot dangerously on goal, and moments later, in the 21st minute, he missed a great opportunity.
Print OSM’75
Five minutes after this missed opportunity, OSM’75’s pressure paid off. After a well-organized attack, Justin Vaas took advantage of Focus’07’s sloppy defense. He scored the opening goal via the inside of the post: 0-1.
Although Focus’07 played well in midfield, the team failed to create any real danger. The vanguard, with Nawfal Chatouani, Raul Beck and Bastiaan Zantinge, remained invisible. On the other hand, OSM’75, with the experienced Enrique Herrera, provided a constant threat. Goalkeeper Thimo Dirks prevented worse, leaving the halftime score at 0-1.
Nice promotions
After the break, coach Niells Bosch brought on Maurits Buitenkamp for Raul Beck, hoping to add more depth to the game. Buitenkamp showed some nice actions, but the real opportunities were not forthcoming. OSM’75 continued to dominate the match, and in the 62nd minute Herrera doubled the score by firing a free kick flawlessly into the top left corner: 0-2.
Continue with 10 men
In the 75th minute, Focus’07 had to continue with ten men after Nawfal Chatouani was sent off. Despite the numerical minority, the home team tried to force something, but they lacked precision and power in the attack.
In the 89th minute, captain Matti de Gram was awarded a penalty after a foul on Rayan Dahri, but he missed the opportunity to restore the tension.
‘Bad match’
Afterwards, coach Bosch of Focus’07 spoke of one of his team’s worst games so far.
OSM’75 coach Leroy Van Doleweerd praised his team for the victory, although he believed that his team should have decided the match earlier.
