The Ecotekne Campus of the University of Salento, in building R3, Room 1, will host tomorrow 3 December 2024, at 9 am, an event dedicated to the theme “Sport as a vehicle for peace and social inclusion. The new Olympic sports”. The meeting will celebrate the role of sports born from youth creativity, which have now become Olympic disciplines, as tools of innovation and social inclusion, with particular attention to sports students with disabilities.
This event represents the first of a cycle of seminars which will see the collaboration between the Disabled Sports Associations and the University of Salento in the planning of initiatives aimed at encouraging the participation and involvement of sports students with disabilities. The proceedings will be opened by Angela Mercuri, from the Masters, Continuing Education and State Exams Office of UniSalento. This will be followed by institutional greetings from Luigi Melica, director of the Department of Legal Sciences and coordinator of the Degree Course in Sports Law and Management; Loredana Capobianco, president of the Degree Course in Motor and Sport Sciences; Attilio Pisano, president of the Degree Course in Sports Law and Management; Flavia Lecciso, teacher of Sports Psychology; Giancarlo Capoccia, Sports Councilor of the Municipality of Lecce; Giuseppe Pinto, president of the Italian Paralympic Puglia Committee; Luigi Renis, provincial delegate of Coni Lecce.
The meeting will continue with a round table coordinated by the sports journalist and honorary president of the Italian Cricket Federation, Simone Gambino, who will introduce the guests: Katia Arrighi, journalist and national councilor of the Italian Paralympic Committee (CIP), with the theme “Olympic and Paralympic revolution: inclusion in new sports”; Riccardo Flisi, Serie A Baseball Softball athlete, who will talk about “The return of baseball and softball to the Olympics”; Sandro Laudisa, president of Cce-LSB and School of Basketball and Baskin of Lecce, accompanied by Baskin athletes, with the speech “The Baskin. Social inclusion through sport”; Gaia Ventura, national athlete and Flag Football popularizer and referee, with the speech “The International Impact of Flag Football”. During the event, a special message from Raffaele Chiulli, president of ARISF – Association of IOC Recognized International Sports Federations, will be broadcast. The event is financed by the “Moebius Pro – Ben 2024” project, coordinated by the scientific coordinator Omar Gelo, professor of Dynamic Psychology at the University of Salento.
