This season’s Cleveland Browns-Pittsburgh Steelers and Buffalo Bills-San Francisco 49ers NFL games have one thing in common: snow. Both matches took place partly or entirely under a thick white coat, and as a spectator, we were treated to an incredible visual and sporting experience.
It reminded us of the days of the Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue matches with the orange ball and how cool the sport in the snow was to watch. At a time of global warming and “there is no longer a season” dear to your (grand)parents, this type of poster has become rarer on this side of the Atlantic, to the point of becoming nostalgic for the iconic failed control of Koji Nakata in the snow by Geoffroy-Guichard.
Fortunately, America and its varied geography still offer us this kind of spectacle. In the Browns’ victory against the Steelers on November 22, the game changed when snow arrived in the middle of the 3rd quarter. In the comments section of the match summary on YouTube, fans are excited about this snowy game: “The snow automatically turns this match into the match of the year”, “This might be the coolest video I’ve ever seen for an NFL game. It started out completely clear and sunny, and it ended in a complete blizzard. It’s hilarious”we can read.
This Sunday, we were once again amazed by seeing Josh Allen’s Bills destroy the last Super Bowl finalists on a field that looked like a ski resort. As if the thick snow on the ground and the large flakes falling from the sky boosted the spectacular potential of each action.
