The badminton star from Denmark takes it quite calmly that the suspension may end up costing him money
The season finals in badminton in China will be without Viktor Axelsen.
On Tuesday, the double Olympic winner announced that he has withdrawn due to an injury to his left foot.
Subsequently, the 30-year-old Dane has been asked to send documentation of his injury.
On the social media X, Viktor Axelsen writes that he has received the following email from the Badminton World Federation (BWF):
‘Viktor’s cancellation has been noted. We wish him a speedy recovery. Please send us medical or other supporting documents for the injury so that you will not be penalized for not playing in the season finals,’ the email said, continuing:
‘As a top player, it is mandatory to participate in the season finals if you qualify for them. We are sure that it has been a difficult decision for Viktor, and we hope that Badminton Denmark can follow up with the necessary documents. Thanks.’
Viktor Axelsen is well and truly fed up with the message from BWF.
Therefore, the Danish superstar has shared his answer to the Badminton World Federation with the outside world.
‘I have repeatedly sent supporting documents when I have been sick or injured, but I have still been fined each time. Reading about Beiwen Zhang’s situation just reinforces my opinion about the BWF publicly saying they care about the health of the players, but do you really do that after all?’
‘Then just send me the fine.’
Viktor Axelsen has not been in action in a valid match since November 23, when he lost to Anders Antonsen in a regular drama.
