BERLIN, December 4. /TASS/. Bayer beat Bayern away with a score of 1:0 in the 1/8 finals of the German Football Cup. The meeting took place at the Allianz Arena in Munich.
The goal was scored by Nathan Tella (69th minute).
In the 17th minute, Bayern goalkeeper and captain Manuel Neuer received a straight red card. The goalkeeper violated the rules outside the penalty area, fouling Bayer defender Jeremie Frimpong. Neuer, 38, who has been playing for Bayern since 2011, received a red card for the first time in his career.
Bayer is the current holder of the German Cup; last season, Xabi Alonso’s men beat Kaiserslautern in the final (1:0) and won the trophy for the second time in history. The record for the number of victories in the German Cup belongs to Bayern; the Munich club has won the tournament 20 times.
Bayer’s quarter-final opponent will be announced later. Earlier in the 1/8 finals, Arminia beat Freiburg at home with a score of 3:1, and Stuttgart defeated Jahn Regensburg (3:0) away.
