The NBA star finds his identity in Jesus, not basketball. Here’s why.

Detroit Pistons guard Jaden Ivey made an incredible shot at the buzzer to give his team the victory against the Toronto Raptors last week.
After the game, he explained the winning shot to the media play-by-play.
“Before I made the play, I was talking to Jesus, man,” he said. “I said ‘Lord, do something special.’ And He delivered, you know, he gave me the strength to go out and execute the last play.”
According to Sports Spectrum, “With star Cade Cunningham out with a hip injury, Ivey produced one of the best games of his young NBA career. He scored a team-high 25 points on 10-of-13 shooting, dished out eight assists and grabbed five rebounds. “Detroit outscored Toronto by 25 points with him on the court.”
In typical Ivey fashion, he took advantage of the spotlight to talk about his faith in Christ and how he maintains an eternal perspective after his return from last season (14-68).

“I think it’s easy to get lost, you know, in this game, just the identity part,” said. “Whether you win games or change your role, I think it’s key to know who you are as a person. Today I scored the shot; I could fail, you know, go 0 for 10 in the next game.”
“Your identity in Christ is really what matters, at the end of the day, because this game is going to happen,” the guard continued. “When all is said and done, when your time is up, you will stand before a holy God, and He is so loving. He wants to accept you, and He already loves you, and He has given you so much grace because He died on the cross and took away sin so that we can be in Heaven with Him forever. “I really believe that, and I stand for that.”
