Manuel Neuer Receives Red-Card In Bayern Munich’s Shocking Exit From DFB Pokal 2024-25

Manuel Neuer Red-Card: Manuel Neuer’s inconsistent 2024-25 season sees him add another low, as the legendary goalkeeper received his first-ever red-card of his professional career during his side’s Round of 16 clash in the DFB Pokal 2024-25.

Bayern Munich were taking on holders Bayer Leverkusen, as the Bavarians were seeking a revenge on Xabi Alonsoโ€™s men, who inflicted a first trophy-less season on the record-Bundesliga champions for the first time in 13 years last season, by doing a โ€˜domestic doubleโ€™.

The fixture was of immense importance for Vincent Kompany’s men, as they were enjoying a strong start to the domestic season and stood a strong chance of eliminating the holders.

However, things started going south for the home side, as Manuel Neuer was shown a straight red-card for his reckless challenge on Jeremie Frimpong, just outside his box, and Bayern Munich were down to 10 men in the 17th minute.

The disadvantage of being a man down proved to be costly, as substitute Nathan Tella scored the winner for Bayer Leverkusen in the 69th minute, and Bayern Munich have now lost their first shot at silverware this season.

Manuel Neuer Apologises To Teammates & Fans After Receiving Red-Card Vs Bayer Leverkusen

After the game, speaking to press, Manuel Neuer reflected on the incident and apologised to the fans for his mistake.

“The red card decided the game. It’s painful for us and I’m sorry. I apologized to the team. In that situation, I was hoping it might be offside. I can’t change it anymore. It was a mistake and I have to accept that. I don’t have a choice. Obviously, it wasn’t easy to keep playing afterwards but we did a very good job as a team. We invested a great deal and tried everything. You really can’t blame us as a team,” said Manuel Neuer.
