Judo: promising international results at Gishi Jambes

Injuries and returns

More recently at the Sartrouville tournament and still on this French circuit which offers very tough mats with several of the best young judokas in France, another Jambois, Darius Germys (u21 -60 kg) also gained momentum with 4 victories in 6 fights. “Still beating the French n.1 and n.6. Darius is integrated into the “Pôle France” in Béthune where there are only 30 judokas for all categories, which shows if they find a certain potential in him.”

Still in Sartrouville Amsar Dzhamaldinov (18 years old, -66 kgs), the bronze medalist of the last Belgian senior championships, was back from injury after skipping the interclubs. With a lack of randori and therefore cardio, the Jambois also obtained 4 victories in a course of 6 fights which he finished relatively exhausted. He will be able to confirm his return during the next tournament in Aix-en-Provence (December 18).

The injured are a bit of the current common thread for the Gishi as explained in these columns recently. With Pierre-Issa Buyle and Ozyas Banyamoli in particular whose recovery is on track but also Salavat Gabayev, Yacine’s brother, injured in the elbow in interclub and disqualified in Sartrouville for a poorly refereed fall. Finally Edouard Capelle, the heavyweight “Jambois” emigrated to Breda (PB) and injured his ribs before the interclubs during an internship in Cyprus, finished 4th last weekend also with a Belgian selection during a tournament in Monaco in the presence of Japan.

The nugget in the making

And the next generation is not about to run out at Gishi Jambes. There is a lot of talk at the moment about the performances of a little Ukrainian of origin, Volodomyr Medvediev who beats all records for precocity in… U13 (-34 kgs). With undeniable victories in the last international tournaments in which he participated such as Harnes again, the Adler Cup in Frankfurt, Leverksuen (All) or Essimo in the Netherlands, not only in his category but also in U15 (-42 kgs)! This son of Ukrainian immigrants who initially found asylum in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg was recently able to settle in Jambes with his parents and his brother, as well as his little sister, of whom the greatest praise is also already being said. We will not see little Volodomyr in the Belgian championship before 2026, but it is already a name to remember in the years to come, undoubtedly in -55 or -60 kgs.
