The Oberdingen local council decides to provide generous financial support for planned modernization projects. FC Schwaig receives almost 132,000 euros.

FC Schwaig can now begin its long-planned modernization projects. At its meeting on Tuesday, the Oberding local council unanimously decided to grant the association the requested grant of almost 132,000 euros. In addition, the municipality wants to grant interest-free loans to temporarily finance the measures.

The club has applied for further funding from the Bavarian State Sports Association (BLSV) and the project sponsor ZUG (Zukunft – Umwelt – Gesellschaft gGmbH). If these subsidies are not granted or only partially granted, the municipality also wants to cover the lost funds.

Club board member Robert Jell was delighted about this decision in an interview with our newspaper: “We are very grateful to the community and the local councilors for this generous support.” Together with around 20 club members and officials, he followed the meeting as a spectator.

Floodlights with LED technology in the future

An important part of the modernization plans is the conversion of the outdated floodlight systems at the three training pitches and the baseball field to modern LED technology. Until now, only the club’s large football pitch was equipped with such lighting. The new LED technology should not only offer significantly better visibility for players and spectators, but also significantly reduce energy consumption and, in the long term, electricity costs.

In addition, FC Schwaig plans to equip the baseball field with a modern scoreboard. The Red Lions, the club’s baseball team, were promoted to the 2nd Baseball Bundesliga last year. The new board is intended to improve the playing experience for the team and spectators.

FC Schwaig’s stick shooters will also benefit from the planned renovations. Three walls of the Stockschützenhalle currently only consist of tarpaulins. Accordingly, the poorly insulated hall can be hot in summer and uncomfortably cold in winter. Now the hall is to be equipped with solid, better insulated walls. In addition, roller shutters should be installed to allow better ventilation on hot days.

Another highlight is the installation of a new camera above the playing surface. This will broadcast the action on monitors so that spectators can follow the stick shooting better. “So far you could only guess what exactly happened: whoever was most happy at the end won. In the future, you will be able to experience the actual game action in real time with a camera and monitor,” explained Jell.

Lawn care with modern technology

To maintain the extensive sports facilities, which also include the community’s fitness trail, the club wants to invest in new technology. The plan is to purchase a modern robotic lawnmower for the main field and a powerful ride-on mower for the three training fields and the baseball field. The old devices should be replaced by more efficient models. “With a total lawn area of 45,000 square meters, we simply need technology that can keep up,” said the club’s board.

With currently around 1,100 members, FC Schwaig is one of the larger sports clubs in the region. The largest department is the soccer players with around 600 members, followed by the Gym & Fit department with 250, the baseball department with 200 and the stick shooters with 50 members. Thanks to the subsidies from the community, the association sees itself well prepared for the future. The aim is to remain attractive, especially for younger members, and to continue to offer a wide range of sports and leisure activities.
