Hajduk published an interesting video on social networks this afternoon, after which coach Gennaro Gattuso and stopper Zvonimir Šarlija came out beardless. As part of the Beard auction, which is already traditionally held throughout Croatia, a substantial sum of several thousand euros was collected for their beards.
The bearded auction is a humanitarian campaign that promotes men’s health and the fight against cancer. This year alone, 250 mustaches and beards were shaved and more than 150,000 euros were collected. In addition to Split, the already traditional “auction” was also held in Pula and Vinkovci.
White coach Gennaro Gattuso also responded to the action, shaving his beard for the first time in 22 years. It cost him as much as 10,000 euros, which will be donated to the cancer league. The Whites’ first team player Zvonimir Šarlija and one of the presenters from the Hajduk Digital club platform, Matej Sunara, also shortened their beards.
