The Swedish Prosecutor’s Office announced the closure of the preliminary investigation into an alleged rape committed in October in a hotel in Stockholm, in which Swedish media had linked the French Real Madrid player Kylian Mbappé.
According to EFE, prosecutor Marina Chirakova explained that, although a person was identified as “reasonable suspicion of rape and two cases of sexual offense, the evidence was not enough to continue with the case.
“During the investigation, one person was identified as a ‘reasonable suspect’ of rape and two cases of sexual offence, but my assessment is that the evidence is not sufficient.” to continue and that is why the case is closed,” the Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.
Neither in the October statement nor in the recent one is Mbappé mentioned, although several Swedish media had involved him.
According to Swedish public television SVT, Mbappé was considered a “reasonable suspect,” the lowest level of suspicion in the Swedish Penal Code. The player was in Stockholm at the beginning of Octobertaking advantage of a break and the absence of a call-up for the French team due to physical discomfort.
Mbappé denied the accusations and described the news as fake news on the social network X: “FAKE NEWS!!! It’s already becoming predictable, as if by chance on the eve of the hearing,” the player himself wrote.
On the other hand, in an interview with Canal Plus France, he stated that he never felt worried about the case and that he had concentrated on his work.
