The honors were given in five different categories: youth and senior sports as well as the city medals of honor in gold, silver and bronze. They hit every year Durkheimer Clubs present their candidates for the medals, the list is approved by the sports committee.
As a “deserving sports personality,” Thomas Mühlbeier was awarded the city badge of honor in gold by the Dürkheim gymnastics club. Mühlbeier has held a managerial position at TVD for 20 years – as chairman of the technology board and as deputy chairman of the board. He accompanied the challenging renovation of the TVD hall. His colleague Mark Sammet received the city medal of honor in silver as the TVD’s director of gymnastics and sports for many years. Mayor Natalie Bauernschmitt emphasized that she was impressed by the achievements of the internationally successful athletes. Each individual showed what it means to work towards a goal. The series of athletes are characterized by team spirit, perseverance and ambition. “I admire you,” she admitted. She also said she would like to thank the parents and coaches who supported the athletes and wished everyone a successful 2025 in sports.
Between the awards, four young musicians from “The Rock Planet”, dancers from “Social Dancing” and Leonie and Robert Nieuwoudt livened up the awards evening with demonstrations from the sport of judo.
