Cuban women’s 3×3 basketball team advances in FIBA ​​AmeriCup

The Cuban women’s 3×3 basketball team advanced today to the group stage of the FIBA ​​AmeriCup tournament based in this city after achieving two victories and one defeat in the preliminary phase.

The Cubans had to participate in the preliminary round to access the main draw of the tournament due to their position as last in the continental ranking and in that instance they began with a 21-8 victory over Costa Rica.

In the second hour they lost 17-22 to Guatemala, but they recovered from the setback by beating the Cayman Islands 21-5 and after combining this victory with Guatemala’s defeat against Costa Rica, the Antilles achieved a place in the group stage, an instance in which they will play in key D along with Puerto Rico and Argentina.

According to the event program, the Cubans will clash this Friday afternoon against Argentina and will close the group against Puerto Rico.

In the men’s section, Cuba lost to Jamaica 4-22 in the debut and later lost against Trinidad and Tobago 9-21 to be left with no options to advance in the tournament.

The fourth edition of the FIBA ​​3×3 AmeriCup will take place until December 15 in the T-Mobile District and has the United States as the top favorite to win in both sexes.
