The 2024 state championships have been played and the new state champions have been determined. On December 8th, a total of 40 athletes from five clubs in the country competed in the new sports hall 3 in Greifswald under the direction of the local Greifswalder SV 98 to determine the best badminton players in the country this year.
After about 8 hours of play, all title holders were determined. In the women’s singles and men’s doubles, last year’s title holders were also the best this year. Wilhelmine Witthus (BSV Stück Greifswald) ultimately prevailed confidently against all opponents and won her second national title in the adult division. This year, the men’s doubles remained firmly in the hands of Michael Kämmer/Maik Pierron (Greifswalder SV 98), who marched through the tournament without losing a set and could not be beaten by the strong surprise finalists Marius Guntelmann/Sebastian Greif (PSV Rostock). .
In the men’s singles, Finn Hellbach (BSV Stück Greifswald) regained the men’s singles title after a year’s break. In the final he prevailed in a hard-fought but confident game against last year’s winner Michael Kämmer.
In the women’s doubles, Wilhelmine and her clubmate Yara Metzlaff won the city duel against Juliane Pöthkow/Elisa von Drehle (Greifswalder SV 98) and won their second title this year.
The mixed doubles was a clear affair for the experienced pairing Maik Pierron/Wiebke Hermann (Greifswalder SV 98). Both won the tournament without any problems. In the final, Schwerin’s Patrick Dettmann/Lena Vater, who had previously been able to defeat all their opponents with strong nerves, had no real chance.
On behalf of the regional association, congratulations to all winners and runners-up.
